Clearing the Sainik School entrance exam is only the first step. Admission depends on the AISSEE result, school-wise and category-wise cut-offs, e-counselling, a medical exam and document checks. This guide explains how the Sainik School cut-off and result work, using the 2026 cycle as a reference.

How Cut-offs Work
There is no single national cut-off. Each Sainik School publishes cut-offs for Class 6 and Class 9 by quota (home state or other state) and category (General, OBC, SC, ST, Defence), and sometimes separately for boys and girls. Cut-offs change every year with seats and applicants. For reference, one school’s 2025 Class 9 home-state cut-offs were reported in the 300s out of 400; check each school’s official list.
Qualifying Marks
Reports say candidates need at least 25% in each subject and 40% overall, with relaxation for reserved categories, to qualify for counselling. Qualifying does not guarantee a seat. See the exam pattern.
